New Umpire Training Clinic
The ABUA provides training for umpires who are new to the organization. This training is suitable for any umpire whether or not they have any prior experience. There is NO FEE charged for attending this training.
This our primary, and most extensive, training. This clinic is scheduled to get new members ready for the high school season, which begins in early February.
The training is conducted in January and early February and consists of four (4) Saturdays, with both classroom and on-field training. In addition, there are two weekends of scrimmages (also Saturdays) in early February where the new members will work under the guidance of some our senior umpires (weather permitting).
In addition to the training provided by ABUA, the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) hosts an annual training conference each January. The registration fee for this conference is waived for new members. There is a training program specifically designed for new TASO members provided at this conference.
This training does not "make" you an umpire. Rather, it is designed to provide a solid basis upon which you can begin to develop the skills required to be an umpire. The course schedule and topics are shown below:
